2026 City Council Meeting Schedule

Per Chapter 1 Article 2 Sec. 1-4 of Wilburton City Code, the Mayor and City Council shall have the care, control, and management the city and its finances, and shall have power to enact, ordain, alter, modify or repeal any and all ordinances not repugnant to the laws of the United States and the Constitution and the laws of the State of Oklahoma, as they shall deem expedient and for the good government of the city, preservation of the peace and good order, the suppression of vice and immorality, and the benefit of trade and commerce, and the health of the inhabitants thereof, and such rules, ordinances, and regulations as may be necessary to carry such power into effect. (11 O.S. 9-108)

Statutes and Rules: Open Meeting Act

The Oklahoma Open Meeting Act requires that meetings of city councils be conducted openly so the public can attend and observe deliberations, discussions, and votes, with advance notice of each meeting that includes the time, place, and agenda. The law is intended to ensure transparency in local government by requiring that agendas be reasonably specific and generally limiting city councils from taking final action on items not properly listed, while also allowing limited exceptions for executive sessions on certain matters such as personnel issues, legal advice, or confidential negotiations. Even when executive sessions are permitted, any final decisions must be made in an open meeting. The Act also requires that minutes and official records of meetings be kept to provide accountability and a public record of actions, and it guarantees public and media access without unreasonable restrictions, all of which work together to promote openness, accountability, and public trust in city government.

Agenda Item Request Form

A council agenda item request form is used to formally submit items for consideration by the city council at an upcoming meeting. It typically requires the requester to provide a clear and concise description of the proposed item, the purpose or issue being addressed, any relevant background information, and the specific action being requested from the council. Supporting documentation may be included to help the council understand the request and make an informed decision. The form ensures that agenda items are properly reviewed, organized, and placed on the agenda in accordance with meeting procedures and applicable public meeting requirements.

For questions or to submit agenda item request please contact the following:
